Yes, the real problem here is not that there are skeletons in the Church's closet, but that many members of the Church believe (for any number of reasons) that they have the cleanest closets on the block.

Church members don't want to admit to themselves that there are skeletons in the closet because it would mean having to realize and admit the fact that Brigham Young- a usurper, bigot, and murderer- was part of a secret combination that infiltrated and hijacked the church. There's a good reason why the church has been cursed for 170 years and BY was the primary force that magnified the problem. How many members will be able to accept the fact that the "line of succession" for the "prophet" is phony? Not a whole lot because they love to listen to Monson's pigeon stories.

We may disagree on the cursing aspect, but we have definitely come to the same conclusion about BY's character.
